THE ART AND SCIENCE OF INFLUENTIAL COMMUNICATION:
SHAPING PERCEPTION THROUGH STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
Voice is the primary way we extend who we are out into the world. What we value, our ideas, and what we bring to the table all come through the vehicle of voice. Yet, very few know how to use the power of voice effectively. Worse, many have unconscious habits that are undermining their authority, negatively impacting the way they are being perceived and ultimately getting in the way of their success.
Rising to higher levels of leadership requires new skills. Strong communication is ranked as the #2 most critical skill for leadership by Forbes, Fast Company and WSJ. At a certain level your knowledge, expertise, and good works no longer differentiate you. What does is how you deliver that knowledge and expertise in a way that informs others while inspiring them to follow your lead.
How we say it is far more persuasive than what we say.

COLLABORATIVE CONVERSATIONS:
THE PSYCHOLOGY OF CREATING BUY-IN TO DRIVE RESULTS
90% of decision making occurs in the feeling center of the brain. In order to establish connection, trust, and buy-in we must create relatability & be able to inspire while also informing if we are to motivate people to take action. People are moved to make decisions by emotion.
Creating buy-in is never about selling a product or an idea; it is about solving for a problem and offering a solution through an experience. Understanding the psychology of your customer, client or team members - learning their pain points and knowing their driving factors are critical to successful collaborative conversations.
Once you have identified these “inner-game” elements you unlock the understanding of how to deliver information in a way that lands with your prospect. By leveraging the “outer-game” aspects of influential communication you can strategically tap into the neuroscience of your listener and access the feeling centers of the brain to have them following your lead.
It’s not so much the what, but how you are pitching solutions that determines if people will see the value & ultimately invest in you, the new idea, the product or your organization.
● Learn a step-by-step proven methodology for uncovering your potential customer’s needs, wants, fears & driving factors while establishing connection & trust
● Understand the Psychology of Influential Communication to create influence and impact

● Explore strategies to handle questions, concerns, or push-back to turn a “maybe” to a “yes!”

ADDING EQ TO YOUR IQ:
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AS A DIFFERENTIATOR IN LEADERSHIP
Flourishing organizations focus on systems of success. While most leadership is focused on ways to design and improve technical systems that create product efficiency and effectiveness, it is easy to overlook the people systems that fuel our ability to promote the products we create.
Leadership, at the end of the day, is about how to lead not just our products to higher levels of success, but our people. Executives with years of experience and a seemingly endless supply of technical know-how (IQ) can hit their glass ceiling because they lack people smarts (EQ). To truly succeed, we must hit both of these targets.
It’s time to take a more intentional approach to hybrid workforces to avoid paying the human and financial cost of separateness.
We cannot forget our most basic, core goal in business: To create connections and relationships that produce results within our company. It is not about the technology required to run a global company – we should be focused on applying the technology while bringing along the nurturing, engaging aspect of human communication.
To that end, and especially during times of uncertainty and stress, EQ and our ability to create human connection and psychological safety is not simply a “feel good” suggestion, but a responsibility of leadership and a scientifically determined contributor to productivity and success of an organization.
● Explore emotional intelligence as a driving factor when it comes to driving results
● Understand how relationship and communication are key pillars for strong leadership
● Uncover small ways to implement more EQ into the ways you Show Up and interact as a leader and team member
● Integrate specific communication strategies to power relationships, establish rapport, and create results over digital channels

● Understand the science behind EQ and it’s ability to increase morale, productivity, and minimize attrition.

OUTER-GAME OF CONFIDENCE:
THE LOOK AND SOUND OF CONFIDENCE
The number one reason people are not advanced in the corporate workplace is due to perceived lack of confidence. Not work ethic, track record, or positive attitude.
It’s not that those individuals feel like they don’t have what it takes to do the job and do the job well. It is, however, a matter of how they are Showing Up, in their verbal and non-verbal communication styles, that gives the perception that while they do great work, they might not really be ready for the next levels in their careers.
When we can improve our communication skills, we can express ourselves with more confidence. More confidence leads to more positive visibility and more positive visibility leads to bigger opportunities. Technical skills as well as communication strategies for managing meetings, self-advocating, and intentional relationship building are key.
In this high-level overview we will uncover the psychology of what it truly means to communicate with influence and decode the sound and look of confidence by addressing best practices of executive voice and presence to be sure you are Showing Up with intention and your valuable ideas are heard and respected.
● Exploring the Psychology of Influential Communication
● Understand that How you Show Up creates Perceptions and Influences your Executive Brand
● Expanding Your Range of Expression to Strategically Communicate and Influence with wider audiences from direct reports to Board members
● Uncovering the Sound & Look of Confidence

INNER-GAME OF CONFIDENCE:
THE INNER MINDSET OF CONFIDENCE
Most often people think of confidence as an outside job. How you speak up in a meeting, the way you walk into a room, your ability to advocate for yourself. Or perhaps that confidence is being sure you have the right answer.
However, confidence is far more about your relationship with yourself than it is about how you relate to others. Before you can get to Showing Up with confidence, you need to explore your inner permission and the stories you tell yourself about your ability to be seen, heard and valued. Self-belief and self-trust are key. Because, if you cannot hear your own voice, you cannot have your own voice.
This will be a high-level overview focused on the transformational mindset & psychological practices that create the inner-foundation for confidence.
● Unpacking your Imposter Syndrome & Exploring your Inner Narrative
● Practices to establish and maintain trust with yourself
● Daily exercises to build the strength of your inner voice

CAREER GROWTH STRATEGY:
CREATING THE VISIBILITY & OPPORTUNITIES YOU DESERVE
Self-advocacy is about being able to effectively stand in and speak about your own value and what you bring to the table. However, it does not come naturally to most people, as they feel like it's bragging or not being a team player.
Truthfully, it can come across as arrogant or conceited if it is not based in facts and a measure of self-worth. It is NOT about making things more significant than they are and touting how you are superior to everyone else.
Advocating for yourself is a valuable and active part of growing your career- it’s not just reserved for when you're in initial interviews, an annual review, or are feeling frustrated or under-appreciated.
Self-advocacy can be achieved by identifying and seizing opportunities, adopting new tools or gaining skills, proposing different ways to work, networking, retaining credit for your contributions, setting boundaries, and many other ways.
This program focuses on self-advocacy from a holistic approach. We will better understand the inner challenges individuals have standing in their value and putting themselves forward for career advancement and get tangible action steps to put outer acts of self-advocacy into play in authentic and effective ways. We will explore executive communication strategies to make sure the right people take notice, ensure that good works are recognized, and intentionally create opportunities of mentorship that support career advancement.
● Define the what, why, and how of self-advocacy so we know what it is and what it is not, why it is so critical to career growth, and the various opportunities we have to do it
● Reframe the inner narrative that most people have around self-advocacy to feel more comfortable and empowered doing it
● Close the Inner Game self-advocacy mindset gap
● Highlight the importance and implement the use of a Career Strategy to take your success into your own hands
● Know what key elements must be present when going for a promotion
● Everyday opportunities to create more visibility, retain credit, and own your value
● Learn how to implement specific techniques of self-advocacy so you can create your own path that feels authentic and effective

BRIDGING THE GENDER DIVIDE IN THE WORKPLACE:
UNCOVERING COMMUNICATION RITUALS TO MITIGATE UNCONSCIOUS BIAS
It’s no secret that women and men have differences. Science supports it, our experiences solidify it.
Aside from physical differences, some of the most defining characteristics that shape how we Show Up are the social cues we have received around gender. These social cues are largely responsible for varying communication styles often seen as challenges in the workplace.
When the varying communication rituals between men and women are not understood and unconsciously overlooked this results in misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and unintended consequences. Negatively impacting morale and isolating differing styles of communication ultimately limits our ability to effectively include and utilize the full spectrum of team capacity and talent.
If you can only communicate with a third of your team, you are more likely to achieve only a third of your potential success.
● Understand the unconscious bias of differing sociolinguistics of men and women that are responsible for the majority of misunderstandings and communication breakdowns in the corporate workplace
● Discover the nature vs. nurture that shapes the varying ways in which we Show Up
● Expand on techniques and strategies to promote diversity of thought, diversity of expression, and ensure engagement and inclusion amongst all team members
● Uncover the ways in which our verbal and non-verbal cues impact how others perceive who we are, the value we bring, and the opportunities we are ready for
● Explore the Range of Expression that is responsible for varying degrees of communication based on culture, upbringing, gender, experiences, etc..
● Discuss common issues that arise between male & female communication styles
● Explore skills and strategies that will allow you to more effectively communicate and intentionally engage with all team members in a way that allows for everyone’s talents and contributions to be fully heard, valued and leveraged.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION FOR VIRTUAL CONVERSATIONS:
CREATING 3D EXPERIENCES OVER 2D PLATFORMS
Too many organizations are concentrating on technology tools for hybrid business, when the bigger issue is training people how to work and communicate most effectively with others in remote situations.
If we want to continue to drive results as well as relationships in our teams, organizations, and with our customers in a digital landscape, we must put effective virtual communication skills at the top of our priorities list. We need to be creating 3D experiences, not just meetings, over 2D platforms. This is accomplished by taking an active strategic approach to facilitation and participation. There are very simple ways through meeting set-up, technology use, and interpersonal communication skills that this can be achieved.
Virtual communications has become a primary channel of connection with our teams and customers. And there are significant differences between in-person vs virtual communications. Your virtual presence now IS your executive presence and company brand.
How are you ensuring connection, building trust, creating cohesion, productivity, and success in a digital landscape? How do you know if you are leveraging virtual communications well, or, when you are not?
Are your teams...
Communicating effectively?
Engaged and working efficiently?
Representing the company brand and maintaining levels of customer experience that are reflective of the standards you hold?
Bottom line - The understanding and application of strong virtual communication skills is paramount to continue reaching team and company objectives and providing customers with world-class service and support. If you want to stay competitive and relevant you must learn how to be successful over digital platforms.

● Improve cohesion, engagement, and accountability over virtual channels

OWNING THE MEETING:
LEADING THE MEETING AND LANDING YOUR MESSAGE
Meetings. We have a lot of practice being in them, but not as much leading them. Meetings are where the majority of our interactions happen with our larger teams and networks. They’re the place where we have the opportunity to establish rapport, create impact, and establish influence with our knowledge and expertise.
Regardless of the value that you bring to your meetings, if you don’t know how to get your voice heard, maintain credit for your contributions, steer the discussion, handle interruptions, take control of the conversation, set-up the meeting and keep things on track - your efforts will fall short, and so will your technical talents and professional reputation.
This is why I created the course Owning The Meeting. So that you have a systematic framework and a checklist of strategies to be seen, to be heard, and to have your value in the meeting be recognized.
● Set-up the meeting in ways that have you in the driver’s seat and looking like a leader
● Establish a container & boundaries for the group to stay on task and focused on the agenda at hand
● Master the Respectful Decline to Set Boundaries and Navigate Interruptions
● Contribute to each meeting in ways that give you the visibility you need and position you as a driver of results
● Leverage large group interactions to your advantage
You spend years studying to develop your intelligence in your specific field. However, you need to learn how to deliver that intelligence in ways that actually land in the various interactive opportunities you have to impact and influence others. You owe it to yourself to take a more strategic approach to owning the meeting so that your message is heard, your value is evident, and the right people are taking notice.

OUT OF RUT THINKING:
FOR INNOVATION AND PROBLEM SOLVING
(Co-facilitated with board member, NY Times best-selling author, and former CEO Bill Donius)
In business, teams can be paralyzed by both their actions as well as their inaction. Teams continue to take the same actions, think about problems they confront in the same ways, expecting that odds to the contrary, they are going to find a breakthrough solution. This type of thinking is what Einstein termed “insanity.”
Sometimes, when teams are stuck they turn to a process known as “brainstorming,” invented in 1938 by Alex Osborne of ad agency BBDO fame. Although better than more of the same-old linear, logical, analytical thinking, brainstorming can still lead to the eventual death of a company (think Motorola, Sears). Instead, comes the modernized process of “Ideation”.
In this session you will explore a scientifically proven methodology for innovative problem solving, increased creativity, collaboration and moving away from “rut thinking” into new grounded possibilities.
Co-facilitated by creator and author of “Thought Revolution”, former CEO and current board member Bill Donius, this session will give you insight and immediate application to tap into bigger possibilities, move past group think, and get to the heart of the matter to go further, faster.
There is a need to find a way to utilize our brain power more effectively and differently. Exponential possibility requires that we use both sides- right and left- to move past blockers and ensure meaningful breakthroughs & solutions.
“Think Outside the Box,” surely the most overused hyperbole in business... In a fast-changing, globally-competitive world, speed, innovation and decisiveness are keys to survival. Ideation, a disruptive brain hack process, will pave the way for the BIG ideas before they are coming from a competitor or start-up.” - William Donius
● Apply a scientifically proven methodology for creative problem solving, collaboration, innovation, decision making
● Unlock greater brain power for greater outcomes
● Get outside of stale thinking that is holding back team and company progress
● Learn the “how” and apply the process immediately to a problem, growth cycle, collaboration, decision, etc.
● Get consensus-driven results, saving the need for additional time, effort, resources, and meetings

HOW TO GIVE & RECEIVE CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK:
THE ART & SCIENCE OF MOTIVATION THROUGH CANDID CONVERSATION
How to give and receive constructive feedback.
It’s a nuanced balance that requires finesse and specific steps to be successful. And most people, while they know it’s a part of the territory when it comes to their career, don’t have the tools on how to be successful in these conversations.
We know it's important, it’s a critical part of how we grow and lead - ourselves and others - but how do we do it well? What factors are at play to ensure that what we say is taken as it’s intended, or isn’t awkwardly vague or disparaging. How can we actually inspire others to new levels of development through constructive feedback. Vice versa, when on the receiving end - how do we turn what could be seen as a negative into a positive. How do we get the clarity we need to really use constructive feedback to our advantage, and how can we even capitalize on constructive feedback opportunities to advocate for ourselves, come out on top, and maybe even deepen rapport with our superiors or colleagues in otherwise uncomfortable conversations.
In this course you will learn:
● The step-by-step equation to communicate constructive feedback in ways that create clarity and empower change
● How you can level-set expectations and use clear communication and boundaries to proactively drive new behaviors and results
● Ways to leverage inquiry to understand the driving factors of others so you can motivate them to change
● The step-by-step systematic communication technique to receive constructive feedback like a pro, and have you walking away from the conversation looking like a true leader
● Ways to come out on top, and turn what is usually an awkward conversation on its head to leverage constructive feedback to your advantage AND build trust, confidence and relationship between you and your boss.
These high intent moments in your career are not a matter of if they happen, but when. And they can create great opportunities for you if you know how to use them to your advantage.
